Howdy!

Well, it appears that this project is currently somewhat dead in the water. Klaus seems to have disappeared and nobody is quite sure what's happened to the idea of releasing a fans-only covers album.

So, I've decided to hijack Klaus' pages, including all the artwork, and move them to my site. Additionally, any and all contributions that are sent to me WILL BE INCLUDED, and made available for download in both MP3 and RealAudio formats. I've only received a few so far, but I've combined them with the short snippets of music that were here when I hijacked the page originally, so we now have a fair amount of music here.

If you have something to contribute, email it to joey@lindstrom.com (please ensure it is MP3 encoded at at least 128k/sec) or mail a cassette copy to:

Hello,

Although the Deadline on the 30th of April has long since expired, I've extended it 'internally' by another 2 weeks to allow for postage delays. But now it's finally "Rien ne vas plus" as the french say. Oh, and I've managed to forget my password for the web-site which hosts the R-3-Project Site. Hee, hee ... these things happen.

Although initially it looked as if I would have to sing all the cover versions for the project myself, by now I finally have enough material to fill TWO CDs. Of course, two CDs is out of the question due to time and cost restrictions. I was really surprised about the excellent musical potential among the Numan fans. The submissions ranged from 'true to the original'-covers to hardcore punk and techno versions. Nearly all contestants did put in a lot of effort in recording their song(s) as professionally as possible. It is worth mentioning once more, that this is the first tribute album, which was exclusively realised via the Internet. Meanwhile there are other such projects, such as a tribute album by fans of the Pet Shop Boys. Until now I had the chance to meet four of the contributors to the random project during the NUMAN-Europe-Tour in Cologne and Utrecht.

I have to apologise for not immediately replying to some of your emails. Still rest assured that all tracks, which had been announced via email of snail mail have reached me by now. Since the space on a CD is limited, not all contributions can be included (remember that the demo-version I gave Gary prior to his concert in Cologne in March only contained 11 tracks from 8 contributors, because that was all I had received by that time!). I hope you won't be too disappointed if your track is not included in the final version. Nothing will get lost. And maybe there will be more such projects.

The first tracks are currently being engineered and recorded in a professional studio in Frankfurt, including volume adjustments, noise suppression etc. Stephan Keßler, who does the engineering for the project is a declared Numan fan and operates a professional studio with 40-track equipment. He has been involved in several projects such as Moskwa TV or Culture Beat and is especially well known in the Frankfurt Techno and Dancefloor Scene.

I'm trying to interest some independent labels in the distribution of the CD. If all goes according to plan the final product will be available by August or September. Initially 500 CDs will be produced. I am currently negotiating with several CD-manufacturers, which will also handle all legal matters. This will ensure a 100% legal operation.

On the Tracks page you'll find all submitted songs, the information about the musicians have also been updated, and some more MP3-Files have been added. Furthermore, the cover art page shows some new additions. Check them out. That's all the project news for now.

Hello,

you will probably have noticed some changes concerning the so-called RANDOM-3-Project. First of all the project has been renamed 'R3 - A Fan Tribute" to avoid any trouble with Beggars. And there is a new URL, more web space and even one mirror site in Canada!

On the tracks-page you will still find a list of all songs which have been submitted until now. A new feature are downloadable MP-3 fields which allow you to get a first impression about the submissions. A link to the WINAMP-page's MP-3 player is provided at the end of the Tracks-Page.

The deadline for the project has been moved back to the 30th of April '98. After that date you can still send tracks but it's unlikely that they will be included on the R3 CD.

The CD is scheduled for mid-July. I haven't though about the price yet. I promise to look after all the legal stuff and licences. But then again I am not a professional producer, but 'just' a salesman in a radio store. The project is just a kind of hobby. But I'm putting my lifeblood into the thing and everything will be handled 100% correct.

Gary will get a first overview about the project, because I will give him a preliminary version of the CD containing those tracks which have been definitely chosen for the project. (Hint: those tracks are available as MP3 files on the Tracks-page). Maybe this will motivate those of you who still could not decide to participate. Please send your contributions if at all possible on CD-R or MiniDisc for quality reasons. Tapes cause a lot of work in post-production and I don't have a DAT drive. If CD-R or MD is not available to you DAT of Tape is OK, but please use high quality tape material (Metal or chrome) and use Dolby for noise reduction.

The address to send the tracks to has not changed:

KLAUS SAUER, KIRCHSTR. 10, 45699 HERTEN, GERMANY

Please include a short biography and why you did chose that particular track. A photograph of you or your band for the web site would be nice too.

I am still very much interested in your ideas for the cover. Don't forget that a cover consists of a booklet with the title graphics and an inlay for the back side of the jewel case. A easily recognisable logo would be cool. And don't forget: the name of the project is "R-3 - A Fan Project"

If there are any problems concerning the MP-3 files of if the new server is too slow try our mirror site at:
